Geological Information

This specimen features an impressive combination of three distinct minerals formed within hydrothermal environments.

Quartz formed from silica-rich mineral solutions, creating the transparent crystals visible throughout the specimen. Sphalerite, a zinc sulphide mineral and the primary ore of zinc, formed alongside the Quartz and displays a dark metallic lustre. Scattered amongst them are well-formed Pyrite crystals, often recognised by their distinctive metallic gold colour and cubic crystal habit.

The combination of bright Quartz, metallic Sphalerite and golden Pyrite creates exceptional contrast and makes this specimen particularly desirable for mineral collectors.

  • Crystal Type: Quartz with Sphalerite and Pyrite
  • Colour: White, silver-grey, black and metallic gold
  • Mineral Family: Silicate (Quartz), Sulphide (Sphalerite and Pyrite)
  • Quartz Mohs Hardness: 7
  • Sphalerite Mohs Hardness: 3.5 - 4
  • Pyrite Mohs Hardness: 6 - 6.5
  • Special Feature: Multiple contrasting mineral species in one specimen
  • Formation: Formed within hydrothermal mineral deposits where several minerals crystallised together
  • Country of Origin: Bulgaria
