Geological Information

This specimen features an attractive combination of Sphalerite, Pyrite and Quartz formed within hydrothermal mineral deposits.

Sphalerite is a zinc sulphide mineral and the primary ore of zinc. It commonly develops alongside Pyrite and other sulphide minerals in mineral-rich environments. The dark metallic crystals visible throughout the specimen are characteristic of iron-rich Sphalerite.

Pyrite, often recognised by its metallic golden colour and distinctive crystal shapes, formed alongside the Sphalerite and contributes much of the specimen's brilliant sparkle.

Quartz crystallised within the same environment, producing tiny sparkling crystal faces that enhance the overall brilliance and texture of the piece.

  • Crystal Type: Sphalerite, Pyrite and Quartz
  • Colour: Metallic gold, silver-grey, black and white
  • Mineral Family: Sulphides (Sphalerite and Pyrite) and Silicate (Quartz)
  • Sphalerite Mohs Hardness: 3.5 - 4
  • Pyrite Mohs Hardness: 6 - 6.5
  • Quartz Mohs Hardness: 7
