Geological Information
Snowflake Obsidian is a natural volcanic glass formed when silica-rich lava cools rapidly, preventing crystals from developing. The distinctive white or grey "snowflakes" are not actual snowflakes but crystal formations of the mineral Cristobalite that developed within the Obsidian as it cooled.
This combination of volcanic glass and Cristobalite creates the beautiful patterns that make Snowflake Obsidian so easily recognisable. Each specimen displays a unique arrangement of these natural inclusions.
