Scottish Botanical Amulet - Nettle Spirit with Golden Sheen Obsidian

Part of the Scottish Botanical Amulet collection, this one-of-a-kind piece was created using a real dead nettle leaf gathered in Scotland. Through the process of copper electroforming, layer upon layer of copper was permanently deposited onto the leaf itself, capturing its delicate structure, intricate veins, and natural contours in lasting metal. Every detail of the original leaf remains beautifully visible, transforming this gift of the wild Scottish woodland into a unique keepsake. Handcrafted in my small studio in rural Scotland, each amulet carries a connection to the landscape from which its story began.

The leaves shown alongside the amulet in the photographs are from the same species of dead nettle used in its creation, offering a glimpse of the living plant whose delicate structure was captured in copper.

A crescent moon rests at the heart of the leaf, while a Golden Sheen Obsidian bead is woven into the handwoven micromacramé detailing. Suspended from a braided adjustable cord, this amulet may be worn close to the neck or lowered to rest near the heart, adapting to the wearer's preference.

Symbolism of the Design

Along woodland paths and beneath tangled hedgerows, dead nettle grows quietly among the grasses. It asks for little attention and is often mistaken for something ordinary, yet it returns season after season, thriving where others might struggle.

There is a quiet lesson hidden within this humble plant. Dead nettle reminds us that worth is not measured by how loudly we are seen, but by the strength with which we continue to grow. It speaks of resilience, hidden beauty, and the wisdom of remaining true to one's nature, even when overlooked by the world around us.

Captured in copper and paired with a crescent moon, this leaf becomes a symbol of unseen paths, quiet transformation, and the magic that often reveals itself only to those willing to look a little closer.

Spiritual & Symbolic Associations

  • Intuition
  • Resilience
  • Inner Strength
  • Transformation
  • Woodland Magic

Golden Sheen Obsidian is often described as a stone of hidden light. At first glance it appears dark and mysterious, yet when it catches the light, flashes of gold emerge from within. In many ways, it mirrors the spirit of the dead nettle itself, a plant whose quiet presence conceals remarkable resilience and beauty.

Together, leaf and stone tell a story of discovering treasures where others may see none. They invite us to trust our own perception, to look beyond appearances, and to recognise that some of life's most meaningful gifts reveal themselves gradually.

The crescent moon weaves another thread into the story. Long associated with intuition, cycles, and transformation, it reminds us that growth often happens in unseen stages, just as the moon waxes and wanes beyond our sight.

When creating this piece, I wanted it to carry the atmosphere of a moonlit woodland path, where silver light dances across leaves and every shadow seems to hold a secret waiting to be discovered. It serves as a reminder that hidden within each season of life lies a spark of wisdom, waiting for the right moment to shine.

Chakra Association

Golden Sheen Obsidian is often associated with the Root Chakra and Solar Plexus Chakra, symbolically linked with grounding, confidence, personal power, and self-awareness.
