Scottish Botanical Amulet - Fern Spirit with Tiger's Eye
Part of the Scottish Botanical Amulet collection, this one-of-a-kind piece was created using a real fern gathered in Scotland. Through the process of copper electroforming, layer upon layer of copper was permanently deposited onto the fern itself, capturing its delicate structure, intricate textures, and natural form in lasting metal. Every detail of the original fern remains beautifully visible, transforming this gift of the wild Scottish woodland into a unique keepsake. Handcrafted in my small studio in rural Scotland, each amulet carries a connection to the landscape from which its story began.
The fern fronds shown alongside the amulet in the photographs are from the same species used in its creation, offering a glimpse of the living plant whose delicate structure was captured in copper.
Golden, Red, and Blue Tiger's Eye beads are paired with natural wooden beads, brass spacer beads, and handwoven micromacramé detailing, creating a rich palette inspired by woodland earth, sunlight filtering through the trees, and the changing colours of sky and shadow. Suspended from an adjustable cord with a sliding knot, this amulet may be worn close to the neck or lowered to rest near the heart, adapting to the wearer's preference.

Symbolism of the Design
Few plants carry as much mystery as the fern. Long before many familiar flowering plants appeared, ferns were already thriving across the ancient landscape, unfurling their delicate fronds beneath the shelter of towering trees.
Across Celtic and European folklore, ferns were often regarded as plants of hidden wisdom and woodland magic. Legends spoke of the elusive fern seed, said to reveal hidden treasures or grant special insight to those fortunate enough to find it. Growing quietly in shaded forests and secret places, ferns became symbols of protection, mystery, and the unseen wonders believed to dwell within the wild places of the world.
Captured in copper, this once-living fern becomes a symbol of exploration and discovery. Like the winding paths of the forest itself, it encourages curiosity, inviting us to look beyond the obvious and remain open to the hidden wonders that surround us.
Spiritual & Symbolic Associations
Associated With:
- Courage
- Wisdom
- Confidence
- Adventure
- Protection
- Personal Growth
Tiger's Eye has long been associated with courage, focus, and inner strength. This piece combines three varieties of the stone, each bringing its own character to the story.
Golden Tiger's Eye reflects warmth, confidence, and clarity, like shafts of sunlight breaking through the woodland canopy. Red Tiger's Eye, with its ember-like tones, has traditionally been associated with vitality, determination, and the courage to keep moving forward. Its distinctive colour is traditionally achieved through the application of heat, a transformation that feels fitting for a crystal so often associated with courage and personal growth. Like embers glowing within a fire, its deep red hues speak of warmth, resilience, and the quiet power of transformation.
Blue Tiger's Eye, sometimes known as Hawk's Eye, evokes the shifting colours of twilight and distant horizons. It has often been connected with perspective, awareness, and the ability to see beyond immediate circumstances.
Together, the fern and stones tell a story of the traveller, the seeker, and the explorer. They remind us that wisdom is often gained through experience, that courage is found in taking the next step, and that some of life's greatest treasures are discovered along the journey rather than at the destination.
When creating this piece, I wanted it to carry the atmosphere of an ancient forest trail at dusk, where golden sunlight lingers between the trees, shadows deepen beneath the ferns, and every turn in the path holds the promise of discovery.
Chakra Association
Tiger's Eye is often associated with the Root Chakra and Solar Plexus Chakra, symbolically linked with confidence, courage, determination, and personal power.
