Scottish Botanical Amulet - Fern Spirit with Prehnite & Epidote
Part of the Scottish Botanical Amulet collection, this one-of-a-kind piece was created using a real fern gathered in Scotland. Through the process of copper electroforming, layer upon layer of copper was permanently deposited onto the fern itself, capturing its delicate structure, intricate textures, and natural form in lasting metal. Every detail of the original fern remains beautifully visible, transforming this gift of the wild Scottish woodland into a unique keepsake. Handcrafted in my small studio in rural Scotland, each amulet carries a connection to the landscape from which its story began.
The fern fronds shown alongside the amulet in the photographs are from the same species used in its creation, offering a glimpse of the living plant whose delicate structure was captured in copper.
Prehnite with natural Epidote inclusions is accented by warm brass beads along the beaded necklace, creating a palette inspired by fresh woodland greens, moss-covered stones, and the quiet beauty of the forest floor. Suspended from an adjustable beaded necklace, this amulet may be worn close to the neck or lowered to rest near the heart, adapting to the wearer's preference.

Symbolism of the Design
Few plants carry as much mystery as the fern. Long before many familiar flowering plants appeared, ferns were already thriving across the ancient landscape, unfurling their delicate fronds beneath the shelter of towering trees.
Across Celtic and European folklore, ferns were often regarded as plants of hidden wisdom and woodland magic. Legends spoke of the elusive fern seed, said to reveal hidden treasures or grant special insight to those fortunate enough to find it. Growing quietly in shaded forests and secret places, ferns became symbols of protection, mystery, and the unseen wonders believed to dwell within the wild places of the world.
Captured in copper, this once-living fern becomes a symbol of unfolding potential and quiet discovery. Like a fern frond slowly opening towards the light, it reminds us that growth often happens gradually, revealing itself one step at a time.

- Connection to Nature
Prehnite has long been associated with gentle transformation, inner harmony, and trust in the path ahead. Its soft green tones evoke fresh woodland growth emerging beneath the forest canopy as the seasons begin to shift.
The natural inclusions of Epidote add another layer to the story. Often associated with growth and development, Epidote is said to amplify what already exists, encouraging us to nurture the qualities we wish to cultivate and allowing them the space to flourish.
Together, the fern and stone tell a story of quiet becoming. Both remind us that life's most meaningful transformations rarely happen all at once. Instead, they unfold gradually, much like the fern itself, revealing new possibilities with patience and time.
When creating this piece, I wanted it to carry the atmosphere of a hidden woodland glade, where sunlight filters through the trees and illuminates ferns growing among moss-covered stones. It serves as a reminder that some treasures reveal themselves slowly, rewarding those willing to trust the journey.
Chakra Association
Prehnite is often associated with the Heart Chakra, symbolically linked with harmony, compassion, emotional balance, and connection to oneself and others.
