Scottish Botanical Amulet - Maple Spirit with Golden Rutilated Quartz
Part of the Scottish Botanical Amulet collection, this one-of-a-kind piece was created using a real maple leaf gathered in Scotland. Through the process of copper electroforming, layer upon layer of copper was permanently deposited onto the leaf itself, preserving its delicate veins, natural textures, and distinctive shape in lasting metal. Every detail of the original leaf remains beautifully visible, transforming it into a wearable keepsake. Handcrafted in my small studio in rural Scotland, each amulet carries a connection to the landscape from which its story began.
The maple leaves shown in the photographs come from the very same tree as the leaf captured in copper, preserving its intricate beauty.
Suspended from a copper-coloured steel chain, this amulet is accented with a small Golden Rutilated Quartz, whose golden threads catch the light like rays of sunlight woven through autumn branches.

Symbolism of the Maple Leaf
The maple leaf has long been associated with balance, change, and the beauty of life's natural cycles. Each autumn, maple trees transform their vibrant green leaves into glowing shades of gold, amber, and crimson before releasing them to the earth, making them powerful symbols of transformation, gratitude, and letting go.
Across parts of Britain and Europe, maple trees were often regarded as trees of protection and blessing. Branches were sometimes hung near homes or carried as charms to invite good fortune and discourage unwanted influences. Their strong roots and graceful seasonal changes connected them with resilience, wisdom, and the ability to adapt through life's many seasons.
In folk traditions, fallen maple leaves were seen as reminders that beauty can exist even in endings. The annual shedding of leaves symbolised releasing what no longer serves us, trusting the natural rhythm of change, and making space for renewal. Because maple trees return each spring with fresh growth, they also became symbols of hope, endurance, and the promise of new beginnings.
The maple's vibrant autumn colours have long inspired stories of warmth, abundance, and the gathering of blessings before winter. In this way, the maple leaf carries a gentle reminder that every season has its purpose and that growth often continues beneath the surface, even when the world appears still.

Golden Rutilated Quartz has long been associated with clarity, insight, and the ability to see beyond uncertainty. The delicate golden threads suspended within the crystal have inspired many symbolic interpretations, often being likened to rays of sunlight, pathways of possibility, or threads connecting dreams with action.
Many crystal traditions associate Golden Rutilated Quartz with confidence, determination, and focused intention. It is often chosen by those embarking on new chapters, pursuing personal goals, or seeking greater trust in their own abilities. Its bright golden inclusions are said to symbolise illumination, helping to bring awareness to opportunities that may otherwise go unnoticed.
The crystal's warm golden appearance pairs beautifully with the symbolism of the maple leaf. Both evoke the colours of autumn sunlight and carry themes of abundance, transformation, and embracing change with courage. Together they create a piece that reflects growth, resilience, and the quiet confidence that comes from trusting one's own path.
When creating this piece, I wanted it to carry the atmosphere of a golden autumn afternoon when sunlight filters through turning leaves and the air feels rich with possibility. A moment of pause between seasons, where gratitude for what has been meets excitement for what is yet to come. It is a reminder that change can be both beautiful and necessary, and that every ending quietly prepares the ground for a new beginning.
Chakra Association
Golden Rutilated Quartz is often associated with the Solar Plexus Chakra, symbolically linked with confidence, motivation, personal power, and a sense of direction.
