Scottish Botanical Amulet - Maple Spirit with Quartz
Part of the Scottish Botanical Amulet collection, this one-of-a-kind piece was created using a real maple leaf gathered in Scotland. Through the process of copper electroforming, layer upon layer of copper was permanently deposited onto the leaf itself, preserving its delicate veins, natural textures, and distinctive shape in lasting metal. Every detail of the original leaf remains beautifully visible, transforming a fleeting piece of nature into a lasting keepsake. Handcrafted in my small studio in rural Scotland, each amulet carries a connection to the landscape from which its story began.
The maple leaves shown in the photographs are from the same tree as the leaf captured in copper, preserving a fleeting moment in the life of the tree and allowing its beauty to be carried long after the seasons have changed.
Suspended from a copper-coloured steel chain, this amulet is adorned with a natural Quartz crystal nestled above the leaf, like a drop of morning light caught among woodland branches.

Symbolism of the Maple Leaf
The maple leaf has long been associated with balance, change, and the beauty of life's natural cycles. Each autumn, maple trees transform their vibrant green leaves into glowing shades of gold, amber, and crimson before releasing them to the earth, making them powerful symbols of transformation, gratitude, and letting go.
Across parts of Britain and Europe, maple trees were often regarded as trees of protection and blessing. Branches were sometimes hung near homes or carried as charms to invite good fortune and discourage unwanted influences. Their strong roots and graceful seasonal changes connected them with resilience, wisdom, and the ability to adapt through life's many seasons.
In folk traditions, fallen maple leaves were seen as reminders that beauty can exist even in endings. The annual shedding of leaves symbolised releasing what no longer serves us, trusting the natural rhythm of change, and making space for renewal. Because maple trees return each spring with fresh growth, they also became symbols of hope, endurance, and the promise of new beginnings.
The maple's vibrant autumn colours have long inspired stories of warmth, abundance, and the gathering of blessings before winter. In this way, the maple leaf carries a gentle reminder that every season has its purpose and that growth often continues beneath the surface, even when the world appears still.
Spiritual & Symbolic Associations
Associated With:
- Clarity
- Simplicity
- Perspective
- Harmony
- Wisdom
- Renewal
- Inner Peace
Quartz has long been associated with clarity, focus, and illumination. Throughout many traditions it has been regarded as a stone of amplification, symbolically enhancing intentions and encouraging a clearer connection to one's thoughts, dreams, and aspirations.
Its transparent nature has inspired associations with honesty, truth, and seeing situations as they truly are. Like clear water reflecting the sky above, Quartz invites moments of stillness, reflection, and deeper understanding.
The pairing of Quartz with the maple leaf creates a story not of transformation, but of perspective. The leaf reminds us that every season has its place, while Quartz reflects the wisdom that comes from observing life as it unfolds rather than trying to control its course.
When creating this piece, I wanted it to carry the atmosphere of standing quietly beside a woodland path after rainfall, when the air feels fresh, the world seems brighter, and every leaf glistens with tiny droplets of light. A moment of stillness where nothing needs fixing, changing, or chasing. Simply a reminder to pause, notice, and appreciate the beauty already present in the season you are living through.
Chakra Association
Quartz is often associated with all chakras, symbolically linked with clarity, balance, awareness, and energetic harmony.
