Scottish Botanical Amulet - Hazel Spirit with Labradorite & Lapis Lazuli

Part of the Scottish Botanical Amulet collection, this one-of-a-kind piece was created using a real Hazel leaf gathered in Scotland. Through the process of copper electroforming, layer upon layer of copper was permanently deposited onto the leaf itself, preserving its delicate veins, natural textures, and distinctive shape in lasting metal. Every detail of the original leaf remains beautifully visible, transforming a fleeting gift of nature into a lasting keepsake. Handcrafted in my small studio in rural Scotland, this amulet celebrates one of the most revered trees in Celtic folklore.

The Hazel leaves shown in the photographs are from the very same tree that the one captured in copper, preserving a small piece of the woodland and the stories long associated with this remarkable tree.

Suspended from an adjustable cord adorned with Labradorite and Lapis Lazuli beads separated by metallic spacer beads, this piece combines the wisdom of Hazel with stones traditionally associated with insight, intuition, and self-discovery.

Symbolism of Hazel

Few trees hold such a special place in Celtic folklore as the Hazel. Often referred to as the tree of wisdom, Hazel appears throughout ancient stories and legends as a source of inspiration, knowledge, and hidden understanding.

One of the most famous tales tells of the sacred hazel trees growing beside a magical well, their nuts falling into the water where they were eaten by the Salmon of Wisdom. Those who tasted the salmon were said to gain great knowledge and insight. Because of these stories, Hazel became closely associated with poets, storytellers, healers, and seekers of wisdom.

Hazel was also believed to encourage inspiration and creativity, making it a tree connected not only with knowledge itself but with the ability to understand and express it. Its branches were traditionally used in walking sticks and divining rods, further strengthening its association with guidance, intuition, and finding one's way.

Spiritual & Symbolic Associations

Associated With:

  • Wisdom
  • Intuition
  • Truth
  • Self-Discovery
  • Inspiration
  • Learning
  • Creativity
  • Insight

Labradorite has long been associated with intuition, transformation, and the courage to step beyond the familiar. Its shifting flashes of colour seem to appear and disappear like hidden possibilities waiting to be discovered, making it a stone often connected with exploration, personal growth, and trusting one's inner guidance.

Lapis Lazuli has been treasured for thousands of years as a stone of wisdom, truth, and self-expression. Its deep celestial blue has inspired associations with insight, learning, and the ability to communicate honestly and authentically. Throughout history it was prized by scholars, artists, and rulers alike, becoming a symbol of knowledge and understanding.

Together, Labradorite and Lapis Lazuli beautifully complement the symbolism of Hazel. One encourages discovery and trust in the unknown, while the other reflects wisdom, truth, and the ability to express what has been learned.

When creating this piece, I wanted it to represent the journey of seeking wisdom while remaining open to wonder. Hazel teaches us that knowledge is gathered through curiosity and experience. Labradorite reminds us to explore beyond what we already know, while Lapis Lazuli encourages us to trust and express the truths we discover along the way.

Together, these elements create an amulet for those who are learning, growing, questioning, and exploring new paths. It serves as a reminder that wisdom is not simply about having answers, but about remaining curious enough to keep asking meaningful questions.

Chakra Association

Labradorite is often associated with the Third Eye Chakra, symbolically linked with intuition, insight, and self-discovery.

Lapis Lazuli is often associated with both the Throat Chakra and Third Eye Chakra, symbolically connected with wisdom, truth, communication, and inner knowing.
