Scottish Botanical Amulet - Fern Spirit with Amethyst & Moonstone

Part of the Scottish Botanical Amulet collection, this one-of-a-kind piece was created using a real fern gathered in Scotland. Through the process of copper electroforming, layer upon layer of copper was permanently deposited onto the fern itself, preserving its delicate structure, intricate textures, and natural form in lasting metal. Every detail of the original fern remains beautifully visible, transforming this gift of the woodland into a unique keepsake. Handcrafted in my small studio in rural Scotland, each amulet carries a connection to the landscape from which its story began.

The fern fronds shown alongside the amulet in the photographs are from the same species used in its creation, offering a glimpse of the living plant whose delicate structure was captured in copper.

This design combines a real copper fern with a circular frame, a polished Amethyst cabochon, and a Moonstone drop suspended below. Amethyst and Moonstone beads adorn the adjustable cord, creating a piece inspired by moonlit forests, dreams, intuition, and the quiet beauty of the night.

Symbolism of the Design

Few plants carry as much mystery as the fern. Long before many familiar flowering plants appeared, ferns were already thriving across the ancient landscape, unfurling their delicate fronds beneath the shelter of ancient forests.

Across Celtic and European folklore, ferns were often associated with hidden knowledge, protection, and woodland enchantment. Legends told of the elusive fern seed, believed to reveal unseen truths or hidden treasures to those fortunate enough to find it. Growing quietly in shaded places, ferns became symbols of mystery, intuition, and the secret wisdom found within nature.

The circular frame reflects wholeness, cycles, and continuity, while the flowing design leading into the Moonstone evokes a winding forest path illuminated beneath the night sky. Together, the elements create a story of intuition, reflection, and the beauty of following one's own inner guidance.

Spiritual & Symbolic Associations

Associated With:

  • Intuition
  • Inner Wisdom
  • Dreams
  • Emotional Balance
  • Spiritual Growth
  • Connection to Nature

Amethyst has long been associated with calmness, spiritual awareness, and inner reflection. Its rich violet hues have made it one of the most treasured stones throughout history, often linked with wisdom, clarity, and contemplation.

Moonstone has traditionally been connected with intuition, cycles, and the gentle rhythms of change. Its luminous glow has inspired countless stories linking it to moonlight, feminine energy, and the mysteries of the night sky.

Together, these stones create a beautiful balance between insight and feeling, wisdom and imagination. Paired with the fern, they tell a story of trusting the unseen path, embracing transformation, and remaining open to the quiet guidance that often arrives in moments of stillness.

When creating this piece, I wanted it to carry the atmosphere of a hidden woodland glade beneath a starlit sky, where moonlight catches upon silver leaves and ancient stories seem to linger in the air. A place where intuition feels stronger, imagination awakens, and the boundary between the earthly and the magical feels just a little thinner.

Chakra Association

Amethyst is often associated with the Crown Chakra and Third Eye Chakra, symbolically linked with wisdom, intuition, and spiritual awareness.

Moonstone is often associated with the Crown Chakra and Sacral Chakra, symbolically linked with intuition, creativity, emotional balance, and cycles of growth.
