Scottish Botanical Amulet - Nettle Spirit with Unakite

Part of the Scottish Botanical Amulet collection, this one-of-a-kind piece was created using a real dead nettle leaf gathered in Scotland. Through the process of copper electroforming, layer upon layer of copper was permanently deposited onto the leaf itself, capturing its delicate structure, intricate veins, and natural contours in lasting metal. Every detail of the original leaf remains beautifully visible, transforming this gift of the wild Scottish woodland into a unique keepsake. Handcrafted in my small studio in rural Scotland, each amulet carries a connection to the landscape from which its story began.

The leaves shown alongside the amulet in the photographs are from the same species of dead nettle used in its creation, offering a glimpse of the living plant whose delicate structure was captured in copper.

Natural Unakite beads, accented by brass rondelle beads and handwoven macramé detailing, bring together soft greens, warm orange, and earthy copper tones inspired by the colours of the woodland floor. Suspended from a braided adjustable cord, this amulet may be worn close to the neck or lowered to rest near the heart, adapting to the wearer's preference.

Symbolism of the Design

Woodlands are constantly changing, yet somehow remain the same. Fallen leaves nourish new growth, old paths become overgrown, and each season leaves its own quiet mark upon the landscape.

Dead nettle is part of this ongoing cycle. It appears without fanfare, growing among hedgerows and woodland edges, returning year after year with quiet determination. Though easily overlooked, it reminds us that growth is rarely a straight line. Instead, it unfolds through countless small moments, each one contributing to the larger story.

Captured in copper, this once-living leaf becomes a symbol of life's natural cycles, encouraging us to embrace change while remaining connected to our roots. It speaks of growth shaped by experience, and of finding beauty within every stage of the journey.

Spiritual & Symbolic Associations

Associated With:

  • Balance
  • Growth
  • Harmony
  • Renewal
  • Woodland Wisdom
  • Connection to Nature

Unakite is often associated with balance and gentle transformation. Its natural blend of green and orange brings together colours that seem to reflect the woodland itself, where fresh growth emerges alongside fallen leaves and every ending quietly makes way for a new beginning.

Many are drawn to Unakite as a symbol of harmony between past and present, reminding us that every experience contributes to who we become. Rather than rushing change, it encourages patience and trust in the unfolding of our own unique path.

Together, the leaf and stone tell a story of growth through experience. Like the woodland floor, where countless seasons overlap and intertwine, they remind us that beauty often emerges through the blending of all that we have lived and learned.

When creating this piece, I wanted it to carry the atmosphere of a quiet forest after rain, where sunlight filters through the trees, illuminating fresh green moss and fallen leaves beneath your feet. It serves as a reminder that even after periods of change, renewal is always waiting to emerge.

Chakra Association

Unakite is often associated with the Heart Chakra, symbolically linked with balance, compassion, emotional growth, and harmony.
